Weddings at St John“Praise Him on the sound of the clarinet, violin, drums, tambourine, guitar, piano, clavinova and organ” - these are the current instruments that we have in our band to accompany the wide range of hymns and songs which we use in our worship each Sunday. Balance and variety are the hallmarks of our music at St. John’s with hymns and songs old and new from a variety of traditions and composers. In most of our services you will experience that mixture including traditional hymns accompanied on our pipe organ. We like to encourage good congregational singing and hence will have a single vocalist or group of singers to do this particularly if introducing a new or unfamiliar piece. A soloist or group might also contribute an item in the worship.

Our musical vicar’s ministry extends to occasionally playing the drums and guitar and leading us in some “a capella” singing. Each year in the Autumn we have a “Music Sunday” when the morning service focuses on music in each aspect of the service. For each service our preachers are able to select hymns and songs they wish to be included. Our music as a whole is led and overseen by our music director. “Misson Praise” is our basic resource for hymns and songs supplemented by “Songs of Fellowship”, the words also being on a screen for services held in the church itself.

A few of us join an augmented choir at St. Margaret’s to sing for special services and some of our members attend their Summer series of weekly lunch-time concerts. Our music director plays one recital there each year.

Weddings at St JohnMonthly Coffee Morning Concerts from April through to November are well supported and raise money for our music fund.

A joint annual Summer Concert with the King’s Lynn Organ Club has now become established.

We are currently seeking to exchange our present grand piano, which needs a complete rebuild, for a new replacement to use in services and concerts. Fortunately, our two manual pipe organ is in good condition and is used in concerts and recitals as well as services. We have a good upright piano in our lounge, known as ”The Good News Centre”, at the back of the church where our evening services and other activities take place.

New members are always welcome to join our band on a regular or occasional basis.
